What About Bruce Robbins?
To begin the discussion about me, Bruce Robbins, let me say that my friends call me BW and I hope you will too. I have been a home inspector for new and pre-owned houses in Southeast Texas since 1998. My work has ranged from Pearland to Houston, Kingwood, Humble, Conroe, Livingston and all around. Before that I had many years of experience as a remodeler and new home builder. I draw on that experience every day to give my customers quality inspections for the property they are about to buy. Those inspections also include swimming pools, septic systems, water wells, irrigation systems and other components where they are provided.
My ol’ daddy was a wise man and one of the things he used to say to me was: “It’s a sad dog that don’t wag his own tail.” So, this is my section to do some tail waggin’. As the lead inspector for Wildcat Inspections, I can tell you that my life has revolved around some form of construction for most of my life.
The early days
In the early days, cleaning p-gravel concrete back in 1964 was my first job in construction. I worked for my uncle and dad. My Uncle and I were both named Bruce Robbins. His was Bruce Jackson and mine was Bruce Wayne. That’s why they called me BW and him BJ. So when you try to find out about Bruce Robbins you have to be sure you have the right one. Together, my dad and uncle owned and operated B J Robbins Building Company. At that time my uncle, besides being a prominent builder, was the president of the Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA). He taught me the importance of maintaining a high standard of building practice. Since then, I became entwined in an evolutionary process in which I personally performed all aspects of residential construction. I’ve done everything from designing and drawing the plans and building the house from the ground up.
My wife Jo Ann and I opened and ran our own remodeling and custom home-building companies. I am proud of the homes, apartments and small commercial products we produced and renovated. I continued building and remodeling until 2000 when the big building corporations began to move into Houston. They were eradicating their competition by buying up all the smaller companies. Soon those corporations forced most of the local contractors out by hiring a cheaper and cheaper labor force. That’s when I decided to switch hats. If I could no longer compete against those sub-standard builders, I could at least point out their deficiencies to their potential customers. After completing the required classroom hours, I took the state test and passed it the first try. (I have heard of many who haven’t passed it after 3 attempts.)
What About Bruce Robbins Today?
When people ask about Bruce Robbins I want them to know that as a local inspection professional based in Southeast Texas, I understand the unique challenges and conditions of homes in our area. From Gulf Coast weather impacts to regional building practices, my in-depth knowledge ensures a comprehensive evaluation of every property.
I am also a Mold Inspector licensed with the State, and an FHA 203(k) Consultant. To that end, I am committed to providing my clients with the same high standards in home inspection that I gave to my homebuyers when I was building has been my goal. That’s why I make a consorted effort to keep up with changing policies and construction practices.
I also strive to increase my knowledge base beyond the TREC Rules for continuing education. That way when you call me for your new home phase inspection or your move-in inspection for your new house I can be confident that I can take care of your needs. I have obtained other licenses and experiences that enhance the way I look at a house. Those included Insurance Adjuster, Mold tech, Moisture inspector and others. All that allows me to bring an additional degree of interpretation to the home inspection.
Looking Toward The Future
Since that time, I have performed thousands of inspections. I have even trained other inspectors who are still working in Texas. With years of experience in the home inspection industry, I have earned the prestigious title of Certified Master Inspector (CMI) through InterNACHI, the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors. This designation represents my commitment to excellence, ongoing education, and a proven track record of superior service.
