I am Jo Ann Robbins

Who is Jo Ann Robbins – I have been inspecting new and used houses in the Houston area as a Professional TREC Inspector since 1999. My goal is to provide a quality home inspection for a reasonable price. The Wildcat Inspections Team doesn’t just inspect new and pre-owned homes. We also inspect the components that the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) considers to be “Optional”. Those include swimming pools, water wells, septic systems, lawn irrigation systems and others. Please allow me to take a moment and tell you a little about myself. That way when we meet for the first time you will know something about the person you are hiring for this important part of your home purchase.

The early years

The early years for Jo Ann Robbins – I married my husband, Bruce in 1971 taking him for better or for worse. (It hasn’t been ALL bad LOL). In the early days I worked beside him on the construction sites for new homes and apartments. He began his construction skills before we were married. I was never good with a hammer, so I was happy when they came out with the pneumatic nailer.

Later I was blessed by being able to stay home and raise our two children. Of course, I still had to take care of the bookkeeping and scheduling for the company. Meanwhile, Bruce continued to work from daylight to dark, 6 days a week. Later, the company grew enough to hire a secretary, and our kids were old enough to fend for themselves. That allowed me to get out of the house and work as a Property Manager for large apartment complexes. For that I oversaw maintenance for large apartment complexes. In that capacity I worked with independent contractors who repaired and upgraded the property infrastructure.  These included the structure, plumbing, electrical, HVAC system and appliances. I learned a lot during those years. As Bruce says, about “how stuff works”.

Growing Pains

The Growing Years and Jo Ann Robbins – I had been overseeing repair contractors for a few years when Bruce convinced me to return to work with him at his company. The company experienced some growing pains due to the uptick in the economy. This time I came in as his superintendent, unpaid of course. We enjoyed building new homes and renovating homes for our clients. But, most of all we enjoyed seeing or customers’ delight with the results. They say two things can kill a marriage faster than anything. Those are in-laws and remodeling your home. I’m happy to say that never happened to any of our clients. At least not because of us.

One reason is because we took the time to talk to them. We went to great lengths to let them know what to expect.  Then we followed that by producing a product that exceeded those expectations.

It was saddening to see large corporations taking over the local market at the end of the last decade. The real tragedy was watching them turn out to be inferior quality of homes. What they did to the new home consumer in Texas gave a whole new meaning to “buyer beware!” That’s the only way they could thrive and gobble up the small builders who built above minimum standards. It’s a little better now than it used to be because the market demanded higher standards. Unfortunately, we still see a lot of oversights. That’s especially true of new homes and major remodeling. Some of them are considered life threatening.

Professional TREC Inspector

Professional Licenses for Jo Ann Robbins – In 1998 Bruce and I started to move away from the building and remodeling market. We got the necessary education and licenses to become both Professional Home Inspectors and Independent Insurance Adjusters. Those jobs were almost identical except for the paperwork. A lot of roofs have been climbed in the process. We quit the adjusting business a few years back. We now concentrate solely on home inspections. As a team we maintain a goal to continue the practice of providing our clients with higher-than-average results. That includes the report on the inspections that we conduct. Whether we are inspecting under the house, on the rooftop or in the attic we maintain that commitment every day.

We have seen a lot of poor new construction and poorly maintained preowned homes. That’s why we believe strongly in the inspection industry. An independent third-party inspector is your best friend when buying a home. In that capacity we provide unbiased opinions about the condition of the home. Besides that, we also educate our customers sharing our vast knowledge of building standards and property maintenance.
